It's a natural next step for a Solar PV Installer who wants to move off the tools and into running projects, or for a general Project Manager who wants to specialize in the renewable energy side of the industry.

Required:

Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, or a related field, plus project management experience, ideally including some renewable energy or electrical project exposure; no license is legally required for this role

Preferred:

Project Management Professional (PMP) certification, the same credential used broadly across construction project management, and NABCEP's PV Installation Professional certification for hands-on credibility with installation crews

Not necessary:

A background specifically in solar installation; many renewable energy project managers come from general construction project management and learn the renewable-specific permitting and equipment on the job
